What is B12?

B12 is a vitamin that is essential for a healthy body. We need it for the formation of healthy red blood cells. It also helps us repair our DNA and it plays an important role in our neurological functions. It helps us protect our nerve fibers to avoid brain, spinal cord and peripheral damage.

In short: We need B12 to have a healthy nervous and immune system. And a happy life 🙂

B12 is naturally present in some foods, added to others, and available as a supplement. Not only vegetarians and vegans, some meat eaters are B12 deficient too. Supplementing B12 is a good choice if you think you’re not getting enough B12 in your body. Pregnant women and the elderly should also supplement B12 to avoid unnecessary complications.

And don’t worry, it is almost impossible to overdose on B12, because the body excretes the extra amounts. You should stick to the intake recommendations, nevertheless.
